Beautiful Budapest, my second home

Hungary was the first country abroad I visited. Budapest - what an amazing city! I loved the place from first sight. Later, I graduated from the Central European University in Budapest completing one of my MA degrees there. I then started working for my university as fundraising and development officer. I bought a beautiful flat in the 6th district, near Kodaly Korond.
I almost gave birth to our daughter Angelika in Budapest (she was born in Sofia in January 2007). I met wonderful friends, I felt in love at least twice, I never stopped walking along the beautiful Andrassy bullevard and not so beautiful but dear to me little side streets, Szabadsag ter. I never stopped enjoying the Turkish baths - I spent long mornings and afternoons in Szechenyi furdo. I loved learning Hungarian. Budapest was on the map of meeting places for me and Svet (whose grand-father happens to be Hungarian). I married him twice - second time being in Budapest - in a beautiful church ceremony in the Bulgarian church on Vagohid utca. Yesterday, I came back from a not-so-long weekend in Budapest. Other than having the usual once-a-year property visit, I attended the CEU alumni gala dinner celebrating my 10th year anniversary graduation from CEU. The dinner was on a boat near Lanchid, with the astonishing view of Danube and the city on both sides. I met with good friends, remembered the old times, enjoyed every minute. I cannot wait to be back there next year. I am back to Brussels but part of me lives in Budapest, somewhere between Hosok Ter, Kodaly Korond, Octogon and Szabadsag ter. And always will do.

Living in Brussels

This is Angelika in her inflatable dotty armchair. After spending a lot of time in London, Budapest, Madrid, Sofia and elsewhere and most of it long-distanced from each other we are happy to be in Brussels together. We rent a beautiful flat in Etterbeek, close to the Cinquantenaire Park and Rue des Tongres. There is a lovely view from our window, from the top of a hill... few nice estates, a huge and beautiful old tree in one of the gardens that seems to predict what the weather is likely to be. I can judge it by the colour of its leaves, the sun-light it radiates and the wind in its crown. I probably love rain more than I like the sunny weather so what could be a better place for me to be. It rains a lot here. I already bought about 10 different umbrellas - patterns and sizes vary and amuze me - but I am still looking for the perfect rubber rain boots. Svet leads a team of 4 at the EU 's Committee of Regions and was just invited to teach Political Strategies at the University of Kent in Brussels. Angelika started going to the Council's creche (she does not spend much time there as poor kids are sick always and she experiences the 'running nose' syndrom for the first time. And I refuse to accept it as 'normal' my kid to be sick all the time so she just stays home with me). Whenever she does not stay home with me, I study French and paint (... finally again! first project is called Green Apples).

Our baby-girl was born on January 22, 2007 in St. Sofia hospital in Sofia, Bulgaria (3900 gr, 52 cm). We thank Dr. Valentina Grigorova (Sofia) and Dr. Zsolt Tidrencel (Budapest) for their help in briging Angelika to this world! El & Svet

Kandinsky
9 June – 24 September 2006

This exhibition focuses on the first half of the career of the great Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944), one of the most important figures in the development of abstract art. The exhibition charts his path towards abstraction in the period from 1902 to 1922, and looks at the consequences of these new discoveries during the turbulent years of the First World War and the Russian Revolution. Featuring many of his best-known paintings and a number of works which have never been seen in this country, the exhibition will comprise around fifty-five paintings and twenty-five works on paper.
